Massage Therapy - Post-Mastectomy Massage - Manual Lymphatic Drainage - Facials - Las Vegas
Our classes are aimed at teaching massage therapists how to work with people undergoing breast issues, but they are also helpful for anyone wishing to learn more about this often neglected part of our anatomy.
These days, many women who come to us have, or have had, some kind of breast issue. Whether it is concerns with an issue post-surgery or questions about changes and discomfort that happen as they age, as massage therapists we are in the unique position of being able to help them.
In the US, current statistics show that 1 in 8 women are being diagnosed with breast cancer each year. As a massage therapist, having the knowledge to address clients’ (and perhaps your own) fears, or concerns about treatment, and being able to confidently treat those clients is imperative.
Lymphatic fluid, which is vital for healthy tissue throughout the body, is most effectively moved through the breasts by manual manipulation. In many parts of the world Breast Massage is included in a regular routine to maintain healthy breasts. More and more people are discovering the importance of breast massage to promote and maintain healthy breast tissue and it has become more widely accepted as a form of preventive or remedial treatment for many common breast issues.
The Spurgeon Method® – a massage and bodywork technique for the upper torso, including the breast – is offered by trained therapists in many parts of the country. The class we teach was developed after our own experience with breast cancer and is an expansion of material found in the book Breast Massage by Debra Curties, RMT. It helps participants to become comfortable with the idea of giving and receiving Breast Massage. It explains the benefits, and helps you understand how vitally important it is for everyone.
After taking the basic class, participants will be able to identify the following:
The composition of breast tissue and its boundaries
The changes of the tissue in pre and post menopausal stages
The changes of the tissue during the lactation process
The lymphatic ducts and the drainage pathways important to breast tissue
Signs and symptoms of issues that can arise in the breasts
The musculoskeletal referral patterns of breast pain
Indications and contraindications for breast massage
The class will also cover the legal issue of breast massage.
After taking our classes, you will feel confident in performing breast massage on yourself and on your clients, and will be able to address various breast concerns people may have.
